Registering an imported Scooter.
As most of our Classic Geared scooters are
imported from Italy we decided to add this section to explain the how to get
yourself on the road with the minimum of fuss.
1/ the Scooter has to be age related,
this involves a rubbing of both the chassis number & the engine number.
this has to then be sent off
two either the Lambretta club of Britain,
Vintage Vespa club, or Vintage scooter club (they cover the lot) prices vary
so contact them first.
2/ contact DVLA
in Swansea and ask for the V55/5 form for Used Vehicles, and a VAT 414 form.
On the V55/5 form you don't have
to fill every bit of the form. Sections 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31,
32, 44 & sign it. On the VAT 414 form just fill in Name, Address, Make,
Model, Chassis number, Country of first registration, date & arrival (you
can just fill in the year only if month, day not known) mileage. Now the acquirers
name will be whoever imported it, duty (yes)Vat number if known & sign
it.
3/ get your scooter MOT'd, this
will be done on the chassis number.
4/ Insurance, this will also be
done on the chassis number, tell them it's an import.
5/ Send the V55/5 form off with
your insurance certificate, Mot & Money To your local DVLA
office. or take it in personally by doing this you can rectify any mistakes
on the forms & also get an appointment to view within days.
6/ your local DVLA office will
want to inspect the vehicle, this is common practice and just checks that
it's the vehicle your registering. you should then in a week or so receive
your tax disc & age related registration document *.
if you have any queries regarding
this please email us, don't phone as were so busy we won't be able to explain
in detail. CLICK HERE with your questions.
*it's been
known in some cases, people have told DVLA that they made the scooter from
various parts, this could result in a "Q" plate being issued.
